intro: the great clean up

Coincidentally, this is timed (sort of) with the New Year. But it has far more to do with me being home and feeling so incredibly overwhelmed with all of the projects and stuff and dirt and disorganization that comes from a year (or two or three) of neglecting the home. So I’m fixing it. One 45 minute block at a time. One day at a time. A couple of these things might take me 6 months at that pace. That is okay. (It’s what I tell myself so please let me have this.)

We’re starting with manageable things that I know I can accomplish. (Once upon a time I did actually have a clean and organized home). Working from creating the discipline of routine to most highly used (and therefore cluttered) areas, then to the super scaries like the attic and workshop. Yikes. So we won’t go there yet. I am afraid so you should be too.

I’ve read what seems like a million books on organization and cleaning and creating a calm home. And let’s not forget a couple of good Netflix binges of organizing shows. All have great ideas, so I’m borrowing some of those, combining them with what works for my home, and just giving it a shot.

If some of this works for you, awesome! If it doesn’t, I would love to know what does. Because it’s probably a better idea that I should try too. I am not a professional organizer, I’m not a professional anything. I’m just a busy mom who wants her home to become a sanctuary. A safe haven. A joyful place to make memories. A source of restoration, not frustration.

So let’s give it a go. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?
